My experience in the early years of evaluation for diagnosis was exactly this, all but 2 professionals focussed solely on my child weaknesses. Nobody else would listen to me nor appreciate the fact that my child's strengths, would ultimately aid in helping him to overcome the areas of weakness.
Yes, we had a challenging and what most would describe as a child with atypical behaviours but almost every professional that we encountered continued to overlook his strengths.
It can be so easy to get sucked into these negative ways of thinking,
