Wendy Story

Ruben first joined Early Intervention in April 2022 through our weekly Outdoor Learning Groups.
These early sessions were delivered in collaboration with the Aberdeen City Council Countryside Ranger Service.
Since joining, Ruben and his family have regularly taken part in the wide range of opportunities and activities offered through our community provision.
Growing Together
For over four years, we have watched Ruben and his younger brother Theo grow, learn and thrive.
As part of a busy home-educating family, they have become familiar faces at many of our activities and experiences, building friendships, confidence and a genuine sense of belonging along the way.
Their journey demonstrates the lasting relationships that can develop when families have access to consistent, welcoming and inclusive opportunities within their community.
Wendy shared
“My boys have been coming to Linda’s since the early days of Early Intervention, and we all feel as though it is part of our family.
The volunteers have created a wonderful, safe and inclusive environment for many families, and I don’t know where we would be without them.
We have been to so many fun activities and places that we would probably not have experienced without Early Intervention.”
Theo gives Early Intervention “infinity likes". He says he "Loves it"!
Taking Part in the Kiltwalk
Ruben, Theo and their parents took part in the Kiltwalk in both 2025 and 2026, helping to raise funds and awareness for Early Intervention.
Their involvement reflects the strength of families supporting families - turning their own positive experiences into action that helps create opportunities for other children and families across our community.
Why Their Story Matters
Early Intervention provides opportunities for hundreds of children and families each year and relies on the commitment of volunteers and the support of families and the wider community.
Stories like Ruben and Theo’s show the real impact of early intervention and community-led provision. When children and families can access inclusive, welcoming opportunities within their community, it can create meaningful and lasting positive change.
Statistics help demonstrate the scale of need, but lived experience helps people understand what those figures mean in the everyday lives of children and families.
