Lisa's Story

Lisa is a highly experienced and dedicated professional who works with young children and families in Aberdeen. Through both her career and her own experiences as a parent, she understands how important it is for children to have opportunities where they feel safe, included and accepted.

Lisa has 20 years experience working in Early Learning and Childcare, moving into her current role as a Community Nursery Nurse - where she has spent the past 12 years supporting local families with children under school age. Lisa has a passion for supporting families and children with neurodevelopmental conditions.

Like many families in our community, Lisa first came to Early Intervention looking for opportunities where her daughter, Kali, could feel comfortable, make friends and enjoy new experiences in a way that worked for her.

Here, Kali found something that had been difficult to find elsewhere - a place where she felt understood, accepted and able to participate at her own pace.

After experiencing first hand the difference Early Intervention was making, Lisa decided to become a volunteer herself and very quickly stepped in to support our christmas parties attended by 114 children and their families.

Lisa Shared: "Finding activities for my daughter Kali used to be a massive challenge, as she quickly becomes hugely overwhelmed in environments suited to most children her age. Early Intervention Aberdeen changed everything for us by creating a truly safe space where she can grow and thrive at her own pace, while building genuine friendships and making lasting memories.

Now, it is an absolute honour to step into the role of a volunteer myself to help provide that same vital sanctuary for many other families. I love being part of a community that allows parents to arrive at our sessions with a complete sense of relief, knowing their child is safe, understood, and we'll try our very hardest to ensure they're truly included."

As we have highlighted throughout volunteer week - People don't volunteer at Early Intervention because they're asked to. They volunteer because Early Intervention made a difference to their family and they want other families to experience that same sense of belonging, understanding and support.
