Joanne shares Piper’s Early Intervention story

Piper and her family first joined Early Intervention for Easter messy play in April 2022.

Since then, they have become very familiar faces within our community, taking part in many of our activities, events and opportunities.

As a home-educated child, opportunities to socialise and take part in activities in a safe and supportive environment are particularly important for Piper.

Our holiday and weekend activities have given her opportunities to try new things, meet others and be part of a community where she feels safe, accepted and included.

Exploring Interests in Her Own Way

Piper enjoys having the independence to choose activities that interest her and explore them in her own way.

She particularly enjoys arts and crafts, where she can use her imagination, get creative and bring her ideas to life.

Piper also enjoys meeting animals and creepy crawlies, including some with rather a lot of legs!

Pipers Mum, Joanne Shared

“Piper has attended Early Intervention for the past four years and has been involved in many activities and events that have been available.

Piper can find events for children her age overwhelming and socialising with others can be difficult for her. This difficulty also extended to her education, and Piper eventually transitioned from P1 in a mainstream school to home education.

Despite the challenges that Piper has faced, we are so thankful that Early Intervention has been a constant for her. I don't think we can express how grateful we are to Linda and her volunteers for creating such a safe and inclusive environment for children like Piper.”

A Community to Grow With

Over the years, Piper has enjoyed art therapy, music therapy, themed play sessions and parties, trips to see the gonks, farm visits, hands-on animal experiences, cinema trips and many more opportunities.

These experiences give her opportunities to follow her interests, explore new activities and spend time with others in a supportive environment.

Through changes in her education and the challenges her family has navigated, Early Intervention has remained a familiar part of Piper’s life.

Four years of opportunities, connection and a familiar community.

Why Their Story Matters

Joanne’s story shows the difference that consistent, welcoming community opportunities can make to a child and their family.

For Piper, having the freedom to choose, explore and take part in her own way helps make these experiences accessible and enjoyable.

Her story reminds us that Early Intervention is about creating opportunities, building connections and providing a place where children can feel safe, accepted, included and valued for exactly who they are.

Thank you, Joanne, for sharing Piper’s story and helping us demonstrate why these opportunities matter.
