Becca's Story

Since 2023, Aaron and his family have been a valued part of our Early Intervention community. Aaron absolutely loves attending the activities and sessions on offer - from the moment he walks through the door, he’s ready and full of excitement! Over the past three years, Aaron and his little brother Neal have enjoyed trying new activities, visiting new places and sharing experiences together as a family. For Becca, having access to relaxed ASN sessions means the boys can enjoy opportunities that might otherwise have been difficult for the family to access. This year, Aaron's family also took part in the Kiltwalk Wee Wander with us — a four-mile walk from Cults to Duthie Park. They are one of many families helping to raise awareness of the ongoing gaps in support available for children with disabilities and ASN, and the importance of community-led services in helping families access inclusive opportunities.

Whole-family support means recognising that disability and additional support needs don't affect one child in isolation. Creating relaxed, inclusive spaces where siblings can join in, parents and carers feel understood, and families can enjoy experiences together is a huge part of what Early Intervention is about. For families like Aaron's, this means both children can participate together, without the pressure or expectations that can sometimes make family activities difficult.
Aaron’s mum shared: “Early intervention has given Aaron and his little brother Neal a place where they feel happy, included, and confident while helping them both try new activities and visit new places we would of missed out on if there was no relaxed ASN sessions. A judgement and pressure free zone that every neurodivergent child and their family NEEDS"
