Amanda's Story

Amanda is a kind, caring and dedicated social care professional with extensive experience in frontline practice and leadership. She began her career working in care home settings for older people and has since supported a wide range of vulnerable individuals - including children and adults with disabilities and Additional Support Needs.

Throughout her career, Amanda has been passionate about promoting social justice and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to feel valued, included and supported. When Early Intervention was established, Amanda stepped forward to help turn the vision into reality.

Since day one, Amanda has played an important role behind the scenes as the volunteer responsible for Early Interventions finances. She manages the organisations bank account, maintains financial records and ensures invoices are paid promptly - We are very grateful that Amanda donates her time to provide essential support that helps keep the organisation running smoothly.
Alongside her volunteering role, Amanda works as a Lecturer in Health and Social Care, helping to prepare the next generation of social care professionals.
Amanda shared: "Having worked in social care management, I have seen firsthand the difference that early intervention and preventative support can make to people's lives. Throughout my career, it was often clear that individuals and families would have benefited from support much earlier, before their circumstances deteriorated and required more intensive intervention.
In many cases, relatively small investments in early support could have helped people to improve their wellbeing and avoid reaching crisis point.
While crisis services will always be essential, a system that primarily reacts to problems after they have escalated is neither sustainable nor the best outcome for those who rely on support. This includes relying on goodwill of unpaid volunteers.

In my view, investing earlier is not only more effective for those receiving support but is also essential for creating sustainable services for the future. That’s why I am involved in Early Intervention Aberdeen."
